true love

confrontation

chicory: (voice stern, solid, and so purely and aggressively self justified, a voice with violence like smashing drywall or breaking glass)

Dandelion. 😠

(you're hurting me. Please admit to yourself what you are doing, I think you have a conscience)

dandelion: (backed into the corner, trying to hold it together) O~O (I can't fight back, I'm not allowed (I'll hurt you too badly))

later on dandelion psychologically beats chicory (with little pokes and prods, increasing the pressure) in retaliation for the confrontation, a cowardly sort of "how dare you impugn me!" attitude. it's mixed with fear too, and a sort of begging.

but inside she feels quite ashamed ("in my heart I know I've wronged you") and wonders.. could things be made right... and what will it take? to form and nurture a love that doesn't hurt.

chicory is also quite ashamed, and she thinks she knows what it will take for such a love (who can say whether she is right or not) and she's afraid. she doesn't feel worth loving (her self loathing is deep deep deep), but to dandelion she is absolutely worth loving.

dandelion feels deeply unworthy of love, and needs badly to love so truly that she can bear to look at herself directly without a deadly shame. but she doesn't know if she's capable of such love (she is filled too with desire so heavy it poisons all the care and love), and before meeting chicory, she knew nobody was worthy (but in deciding this, she understood she herself was unworthy too, because is anybody truly "worthy"? the answer was no before dandelion met chicory).

chicory however looks at dandelion with a wonder and rare hope and a love deeper than dandelion knows.

to dandelion, there is nobody in the whole solar system like chicory. dandelion (obviously a sociopath to anyone who talks to her for long enough) sees chicory as the only "real" person, everyone else is like a flat character to her and she can't be said really to even "like" anyone else. but chicory is the whole universe...

(at times though, dandelion herself is flat, and she imagines rich interiors to the flat cast around her)

chicory likewise is obsessed with dandelion in her own way, but much more cautiously. because she's been attuned before, she knows how a fawn must run without fear of falling to learn to run true. and so even though she cannot accept failure from herself, she also understands it.
