mostly frog and toad fanfiction

frog and toad talk about the stars

toad, I want to tell you something

yeah?

when I was little, just barely bigger than a tadpole, I wrote down a list of things I wanted to do someday

(toad tilts his head ever so slightly)

frog: most of what I wrote were things other people wanted me to do. at the time I couldn't tell the difference

frog: but one thing I wrote that was true was to live where I could see the stars.

frog: my bedroom ceiling was marked with constellations that were enchanted to give off light. they were arranged in the shape of ursa major and minor, but no north star. i followed the edge of the big dipper and looked right where the north star was supposed to be... six or seven times the distance between the two stars at the edge and in the same direction I think.... but I could never remember which stars to follow, which side it was on...

(they sit in silence for a little while)

frog: have you ever prayed, toad?

toad: yes.

frog: (I want to ask many questions) I have, too. but I don't remember what I prayed for... (only that it didn't come true).

toad: ..i.. don't think there are gods like they say. (but there is you.)

frog: no. (but there is you.)
